Dähne Verlag was founded in 1970 by Karl-Heinz Dähne. . The business is now managed by Marc Dähne of the second generation of the family. The publishing house is divided into two divisions. As a trade publisher, the company offers specialist information for the home improvement retail and garden centre sector as well as for the pet suppliers industry. For the popular hobby of aquatics, the publishing house brings out successful hobby magazines and offers an extensive range of books.

2023
The new statistics report for the international DIY industry in collaboration with EDRA/ghin und HIMA comes out for the first time. The Home Improvement Report Retail Worldwide is the new report for the international DIY industry.
The publisher’s website www.daehne.de has been relaunched and is now the portal to the publisher’s various fields of activity.
2022
The English-language magazine DIY International is now published as a complete online magazine at diyinternational.com.
In August, the 500th issue of diy is published as a large special edition.
The last website to be relaunched is petworldwide.net.
With Dähne aquaristik starts the new online shop for the hobby section.
2021
The Gartenteich magazine is sold to a friendly publishing house and continued by them.
petonline.de, the pet website, is extensively relaunched.
2020
The publishing house celebrates its 50th anniversary. Unfortunately, the celebrations have to be cancelled due to the Corona pandemic.
Corporate publishing is established as a new business division of the publishing house. Here, the publishing house offers comprehensive services around the production of commissioned publications such as biographies, anniversary publications as well as customer or employee magazines.
In August, the diy website, extensively relaunched and with new offers and content, is launched at www.diyonline.de.
Holzforum, the industry magazine for the wood trade, celebrates its 25th anniversary.
2019
The publishing house celebrates the 40th anniversary of the pet-Fachmagazin with a special issue.
The international magazine for the DIY industry DIY International turns 30.

The magazine Nippers is sold.

The publisher celebrates the 40th anniversary of the diy trade magazine with a special edition.

The magazine terraristik is discontinued.
2014
The location guide is published for the first time. The directory of available industrial and commercial sites in Germany is a joint project of Dähne Verlag and Westfehling Development GmbH.
2013
With the new magazine terraristik, the publishing house further expands its range of products for end consumers.
The acquisition of Nippers, a successful regional magazine for dog lovers, creates another foothold in the successful pet market.
diyonline.de, the very successful website of the magazine diy undergoes a complete relaunch and offers even more information and service. All other websites (petonline.de, diynternational.com, petworldwide.net, holzforum-online.de) gradually follow.
2010
The publishing house celebrates its 40th anniversary.
By taking over the competitor magazine Aquarium Live and merging it with aquaristik, the company’s own position in the highly competitive market of aquarium magazines is significantly strengthened.
2009
Sale of the shareholdings in DeDeNet GmbH and W&D GmbH and concentration on the core business.
Gernot Dähne leaves the company as managing director.
2008
The book programme is continuously expanded and now comprises about 50 titles. New and very successful are the low-priced primers.
The magazine Garten & Lifestyle is discontinued.
2007
W&D Vertriebsmanagement GmbH is founded together with a partner. The company offers international services in the areas of telemarketing, market research, customer care and training.

The first issues of the trade magazine Garten & Lifestyle and the special interest title caridina are published.
The International PET Conference, which takes place for the first time in November, is very well received by the international pet industry.

Sale of the share in the Dutch publishing house MIXpress to one of the shareholders.

With the 1st Pet Congress, Dähne Verlag creates an additional economic mainstay in the field of events and thus continues its diversification in the traditional sectors.

The English-language trade magazine PET in Europe (today: PET worldwide) also opens up the international market in the pet supplies sector.

The Gartenteich magazine is the first title to appear in the growing water garden segment.
The company’s founders Karl-Heinz and Antonia Dähne retire from day-to-day management on the occasion of the company’s 30th anniversary and transfer the overall management of the company to their two sons Marc and Gernot Dähne.
1999
Acquisition of a majority shareholding in the Dutch publishing house MIXpress Verlag with the publications MIX, Groene Markt and Keetens in Kaart. The group of companies now has more than 50 employees.
1996
Together with a software company, the subsidiary DeDeNet Internet- und Multimedia-Entwicklungen GmbH is founded.
Gernot Dähne is appointed to the management of Dähne Verlag as the second son of the company founders.

The meanwhile 37 employees move into the new publishing building in Ettlingen (Am Erlengraben), which was built due to the strongly increased need for space.

The first issue of the trade magazine Holzforum is published for the German timber trade, filling a previously unoccupied niche in the magazine landscape.

Dähne Verlag employs 25 people.
Marc Dähne joins the management as the eldest son of the company founders.

With the acquisition of an existing aquaristic book programme, Dähne Verlag serves the end consumer segment for the first time.
Six months later, this area is complemented by the acquisition of the special interest title Aquaristik aktuell (today: aquaristik).
1989
Long before the opening of the EU single market and the EU monetary union, Dähne Verlag does justice to the idea of internationalisation with the multilingual trade magazine DIY in Europe (today: DIY International).
1983
Dähne Verlag takes over the trade magazine pet Zoo-Report (today: pet Fachmagazin) and develops it into the leading trade magazine in the pet supplies industry.
1977
The company enters the developing do-it-yourself sector with the Dähne Information Service, edition for DIY and home improvement stores. Six months later, the Diy Branchen-Report (today: diy Fachmagazin) is published for the first time.
1970
Karl-Heinz and Antonia Dähne found Dähne Verlag and publish the Dähne Information Service for the food/non-food industry for the first time as a two-person company.
